They say "ARTH" is one of the best hindi movies to be ever made. I had seen this movie a long time back & didn't really remember the story but two dialogs from this movie had stayed on with me.
Let me give a brief overview of the movie. Shabana Azmi & Kulbhushan Kharbanda are married & they are living a "happy" life, at least that's what Shabana Azmi thinks. Enter Smita Patil, and Kulbhushan falls for her head over heels. He leaves his wife to go and live with the other woman. The remaining part of the movie is about how Shabana Azmi comes to term with the circumstances in her life & how this incident makes her strong and ready to take on the world.
Now, for my favorite dialogs.
First dialog:
Smita Patil (the other woman) realizes that a guy, who can leave his first wife for her, can most definitely leave her too for somebody else.
She says this to Kulbhushan, "Jo tumhaari aur Pooja(Shabana) ki 7 saal ki shaadi, Pooja ko koi security nahi de paayi, tho mujhe kya security degi. Tum-ne aaj mere liye apne patni ko chhoda...Kya bharosa hai ki kal kisi aur ke liye mujhe nahi chhodoge!"
Second dialogue:
Kulbhushan returns back to his wife, Shabana after Smita Patil rejects him.
He says, " Mein tummse sirf ek aur mauka chaahtha hu. Naye sire se zindagi jeene ke liye. Maine jo kuchch bhi kiya, usske liye mein sharmindha hu. Maafi maangtha hu. Mujhe apnaa lo"
Shabana replies, "Mere bas ek sawaal ka jawaab do. Jo kuchch bhi tumne mere saath kiya, agar wo hi mein karthi aur tumhaare paas laut aathi tho kya tum mujhe apnaa lethe?
Kulbhushan looks shocked & says, "nahi".
Shabana smiles & says, "Goodbye Inder Malhotra!"(Kulbushan)
Very powerful scenes indeed.
They say your eyes can speak volume. If you want to see a proof of that, watch Shabana Azmi in this movie. Amazing acting. Esp. in the songs, "Jhuki jhuki si nazar" & "Tum ithna jo muskuraa rahe ho", she expresses all her emotions through her eyes.
I hold Smita Patil in high esteem too. Think she is a brilliant actress. Feel sorry for her character in the movie esp. in the face-off between her & Pooja. (Shabana)
Here, is a link to the movie. It If you have already seen it, I would recommend, see it again! :)

As for why I am watching all old hindi movies? Well, makes sense to re-watch old but good hindi movies than sitting through some of the newer ones which wants to make you run for cover! ;)
So grab that pack of popcorns & munch on!

New beginnings
When do you know it is time to start a new beginning and change? Is it on the new year's day when you take your new year's resolution or is it on your birthday when you decide you would live the coming year differently. Guess not. What changes you are small events. Small events in your daily life that may not really mean much to others but which transforms you completely. It could be somebody's snide remark that jolts you to reality. It could be somebody's two word of praise that shapes your world. It could be a single moment when YOU wake up realising that it is time to forget the past and move on.
We dont have to wait for the new year to begin a new beginning. It could be begun every single day of our life. Every single day that brings hope. A hope for a new tomorrow! A new tomorrow with numerous possibilities.
Dont wait for any given day to actually start living. Begin today.

Give this man some credit!
I hear so many people accusing Gandhiji of certain things that he did or of certain things that he didnt do but should have. That always makes me think that it really is very very hard to please everybody! If somebody like Gandhiji is not immuned to it, how much are we!
Lets not forget that he is the main reason for our country's independence. His ideas of non violence were completely revolutionary! Its human tendency to "Fight or Flight". And when we use the term "Fight", we usually refer to violence. But Gandhi demonstrated that we could fight with non violence too.
I am not saying that he was perfect! He might have done some mistakes but isnt it human nature to err sometimes if he really has. But he always had good intentions for the country, of that there is no doubt!
Lets be proud of the fact that somebody like Gandhiji was actually born in our country!
Dilaa di hamein azaadi, bina khadag bina daal;
Saabarmathi ke santh tune kar diya kamaal;
Raghupathi raaghava, Raaja Ram!!
Proud to be an Indian! :)

One of us!
So often, we wonder what is God? Is it Jesus, Krishna, Allah or Vaaye Guru? Are all these the names for one God up there? Or are they all different Gods? So is God actually up in heaven looking at us and scrutinizing our actions? Is he faceless or does he have a face? Does he have any form? How is it that Hinduism has so many depictions for that one God?
Well, somebody once said, "Beware of people who think their God is up in the sky!". According to a certain wing of people, God is not somebody who watches us from up there. He/She may not even have a form. God is that "something" that governs the world. It is something that makes the sun rise every morning and the wind to flow. God is something that makes the blood circulate in our body. It is something that maintains the complex nervous system of human anatomy! God need not necessarily be in human form or any form for that matter. God is the universal power, the energy that we human beings have not yet understood.
So, does that mean that each one of us is God because we are a part of the whole universal energy. We are one of its creation. The answer could be Yes. Rather than looking outside for God, we should look within. Try to find the God in us. Try to be in sync with the whole universe. We all have the capability of being God.
So, maybe God really is ONE OF US!

There is something about the ocean!
There is something about the ocean! The vast expanse of water lying in front of your feet with the blue blanket of sky engulfing it and seemingly touching it somewhere afar in the horizon. The waves of water trying real hard to reach as far as possible on to the shore. The sea gulls flying around in circles above your heads and a white yacht somewhere deep in the ocean forming a ghostly outline on the sky and standing like a lone survivor of a battle. As the evening approaches, the big ball of fire, the sun, which was glaring at you all throughout the day just getting swallowed by the pristine water as if to cool it down a little bit. The ocean! A place where we forget all our worries and just see the mystical power of nature in play. The mystical power which is just beyond our understanding!
Here is the place which is the closest that you can get to experiencing the supreme power that governs the universe, the power that some people call The God! Just look at the ocean and then look at yourself. You go around carrying so much of ego within yourself in your daily life whereas all you are is a tiny atomic part of the universe, the universe of which the ocean is a tiny part!
Each one of us is trying to be at peace with ourselves in this mad mad world. Some of us go to a temple or some other place of worship to experience that peace while some might just go to the ocean and gaze at it and feel totally in harmony with the supreme power!
As i said before, there is something about the ocean!!

Grey's anatomy!!!!
Grey's anatomy! Well, had heard a lot abt this TV series but never really got a chance to watch it. But this time on my flight back to India, they had Grey's anatomy listed on the programs that could be watched on the mini TV that every passenger had! Well well, i thought. Lets see whats so great about this series. Saw the first episode and man, was i hooked. Watched the whole first season, thats about sixteen one hour episodes on the flight and by the time i landed in India, i was a hardcore Grey's anatomy fan!
The story is about a bunch of fresh medical interns starting work at a hospital. Its about their struggles, their exaltations, their sorrows, their personal lives which they try so hard to maintain. As the series caption goes, "Its the story of humans trying to be doctors and doctors trying to be humans".
But i feel there is more to it than that. Grey's anatomy is also about the patients who get treated in this hospital. Their endurance, their pain, their will power and how sometimes however hard you try, the outcome just may not be in your hands.
Its also about how being a doctor is the most challenging job you could ever do. Doctors deal with lives. Maybe the next godly figure for the patients other than THE GOD himself!
Definitely a good watch!

Forrest Gump!!!!
Watched the movie Forrest Gump finally the other day. Well, i did like it. Think its a really well made movie and as for Tom Hanks, man! he is Mr. Forrest Gump. He has portrayed the role so perfectly. I wonder, what is it that made the character Forrest such a big success in whatever he tried. Did somebody just say, "Well, it is a movie. Anything can happen!". Point taken. But still, the scenes where Forrest tries ever so hard to realise his dream of opening Bubba Gump even though all his fishing escapades turned out to be a failure was interesting. Point to be noted is that he did not give up hope. Whatever he did, he just concentrated on the moment and did it no matter what happened or what people thought. Thats where his being "supposedly" dumb helped. A point where others would have quit or wouldnt even have dreamt about the impossible dream, Forrest endured!
Also, the love shown between Forrest and Christy(If i remeber her name right!) was so beautiful. It was true love. Amazingly portrayed.
Well, life is a box of chocolates. You never know which one you are gonna get!" :-)
